Two years ago I participated in the Green Gables Readalong. We read one Anne book a month starting in January and ending in August. Ever since then, I have wanted to do the same with Emily. It’s been at least 20 years since I read about her.
I was originally going to start this month, but I’m getting a bit of a late start back to the blog after the Holidays. And I’m still working on The Blythes are Quoted (which is delightful). So, I think I’ll start in February with Emily of New Moon, then Emily Climbs in March, and end with Emily’s Quest in April.
I would love to have company, if anyone wants to join in! No sign-ups, no links, no pressure. Just fun. And if anyone wants to suggest a good hashtag for Twitter, feel free! (#ReadEmily? #Em-along?) Let me know in the comments if you’re interested, so I can keep track of you more easily!

What lovely covers, I’ve never heard of the Emily books!
LM Montgomery wrote the Emily series after writing most of the Anne books. The Emily books were published in 1925 – 1929. They are considered to be a little darker than the Anne series, as well as more autobiographical.
I love this idea! I grew up with the Anne books but I only heard of Emily a few years ago. I have the whole trilogy now, so I’d love to join you.

I read the Emily books in my early teen years as soon as I finished all the Anne books and found them so dark in comparison. I wonder what I’d make of them as an adult. I think they are true to LMM’s experience of depression (I don’t know much about her life)?
They *are* said to be darker, and more autobiographical. Because it’s been so long since I read them, I can’t tell you much more than that off the top of my head. But I’m hoping this re-read of them will be more insightful than my last!
Oh, what a wonderful idea! I got ahead of you and re-read the trilogy last year. I don’t know if I’ll be able to read it again, but hopefully my memories will be fresh enough to enjoy and perhaps join in the discussions.

I’ve never read these books, but I am not sure I’ll have the time to read along, especially since I have Kid #1 almost talked into reading all the Anne books with me. I am curious to find out more about Emily, though, so of course I’ll be following your reviews.

I hope to try this. I read Anne, Emily, Pat and Marigold but my girl is Jane. My little guy used his money and bought me a copy to replace the copy I lost years ago. So Jane is on my list this year too!

I would love to re-read Jane sometime soon. It’s been too long for all of them (except for the Anne books which I re-read 2 years ago). I’m hoping to eventually get to them all!

Unlike most readers I read the Emily books when I was very young, 8 for the first book, and 9 for the other two. They were my mom’s books when she was a kid, and I loved them very much. I also was determined to be a writer, and in a modest way, this has been a reality. I read the Anne books as an adult, most of them during the read-along project of a few years ago. For me, Anne grew less interesting as she grew older.
I think many readers feel less interested in Anne as she grew older. Thinking about it, I probably grew less interested in Anne, but not necessarily less interested in the books about her. There are so many other things I enjoyed about the books.
And I think Emily is definitely more inspiring to young writers!
